Mrs. Kris Callog has been teaching at Dollar Bay since 1999. She received her Masters in Education and also in Learning Disabilities at various universities, such as Northern Illinois University, Valparaiso University, and Northern Michigan University. She has taught in quite a few places before Dollar Bay, including Inner City Chicago, Hancock, L'Anse, and the Keeweenaw Academy. Things that she enjoys about teaching are knowing that she can serve as a facilitator in the learning process, and working with children. Outside of school, she enjoys weight training, skiing, running her restaurant, and being outdoors. |

Mr. Bruce Carlson has been at Dollar Bay since 1972. He teaches math
part time. He received his major of Mathematics and minor in Physics
at Michigan Tech University. He enjoys working with young people
who really want to learn, and outside of school he enjoys hunting, fishing,
bowling, and golf.

Ms. Sara Ferris receieved her degree in Biology and secondary teaching certifacation from MTU in 2000. She taught science for a year at E-TC and then was the assistant basketball coach for MTU. She teaches Science 7, Science 8, Biology, and Science Applications. Outside of school she injoys running, reading, and hanging out with her dog Major.

Mr. William O'Connor has been teaching since 1984. He has been at Dollar Bay since 1996. He received a Bachelor in Computer Science, and a minor in Math & Science at MTU, and a Masters in Religious Education at Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary. He teaches Keyboarding, computer applications I and II, Programming I and II, and Elementary Computers. He is also the computer network administrator. One of the things he enjoys most is the hard working and respectful students. Outside of school, he enjoys playing basketball, being with his family, and Ministry. |
Mrs. Lynn Lanala received a double major in English and Biology at a variety of universities, including Michigan State, Ferris State, and Michigan Tech. She's been at Dollar Bay since 1985, and teaches English 10 and 11, Biology, and A.P. Biology. When asked what she likes most about teaching, she said, "I enjoy never doing the same thing from day to day or even from hour to hour." She also enjoys learning something new every day from her students. Outside of school she likes to surf the internet, travel, read, and play computer scrabble. |
Mrs. Paula McKaig has been at Dollar Bay since 1992. She teaches all the band and choir classes at Dollar Bay. She received her major in Secondary Music K-12 with Choral Specifications, and a piano major in Lake Superior State Univ. and Northern Michigan Univ. She enjoys watching students learn and understand things. Outside of school she enjoys gardening. |
Mr. Patchin started in Dollar Bay in the fall of 2003. He has a Bachelors in Business Administration with a finance major from Michigan Tech. He spent 12 year working in sales and management before deciding to teach. When asked why he went into teaching he responds, "My greatest rewards come from helping people make their dreams become reality." He coaches football and basketball. When not teaching he enjoys fishing, boating, skiing, and spending time with his wonderful children and beautiful wife!

Mrs. Mary Rautio went to Northern Michigan Univ. for four years, where she received her major in English and a minor in Psychology. She has been at Dollar Bay since 1995 and currently teaches English 7-9, 12, and Psychology. One of the more enjoyable parts of teaching is laughing and learning with students. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, walking, and going to the beach in our lovely U.P. summers. |
Mrs. Kim Rogan has been at Dollar Bay since 1994. She teaches some of our Math, Chemistry, and Physics classes. She received her degree in Math and Chemistry at Ferris State Univ., and also Michigan Tech Univ. She enjoys the variety of students she teaches, and being able to help them become something better by learning, and also learning with them. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim, and her children Justin and Libby. She also enjoys walking, reading, and sewing. |
Mr. Greg Staricha went to Calumet High School and he graduated in 1993. After he graduated from high school, he then went on to Northern Michigan University and graduated in 2001 with a bachelor in Science, secondary in Education, major in Industrial Education, and a minor in Earth Science. He is a Woodshop, Metal shop, Drafting, CAD, and Earth Science teacher. His interests include woodworking, family and hockey. |

Mr. Matt Zimmer is a new teacher at Dollar
Bay, and is excited to be working in a small school. He is teaching
math, physical science, and physics. Mr. Zimmer has a degree in civil
engineer for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. When
not in the classroom, Mr. Zimmer enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding,
Nordic skiing, and hunting.

Mrs. Amy Hyrkas came to our school also this year as a guidance counselor and a tutorer, when she is needed. She is here on Tuesday's and Thursday's. She graduated from Chassell High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in secondary English education from Arizona State University. In 1993 she came back to this area and worked with students with special needs in L'anse for two years. In 1995, she began working at Baraga High School as an English teacher, two years later she landed a job at Chassell High School working as a public speaker, art and English teacher. She has worked many places before Dollar Bay, but now she is here and we are grateful for that. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her daughter and son and with her husband. Mrs. Hyrkas is always full of smiles. |
Tutor
Mrs. Maloney is the Americorp voluteer for Dollar Bay. She graduated from Michigan Tech in May 2003 with a bachelor's degree in Biology concentration in Microbiology. She enjoys helping students to learn. Outside of school she likes spending time with her family and playing with her dog. |
