Mr. Bruce Carlson has been at Dollar Bay since 1972.  He teaches math part time.  He received his major of Mathematics and minor in Physics at Michigan Tech University.  He enjoys working with young people who really want to learn, and outside of school he enjoys hunting, fishing, bowling, and golf.

Mr. Sean Codere just came to our school in 2002.  He teaches math and physics. He is also a Lake Linden Junior Varsity Football Coach and coaches the Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team in Dollar Bay. Mr. Codere was asked to be the 7th grade advisor which he gladly accepted. He graduated from Lake Linden High School in 1996 and then graduated from Michigan Tech University in the year 2001, where he got a major in General Mathematics and a minor in Physics. He likes football, coaching, playing basketball, golfing, hunting, four wheeling and camping. 

Mr. Steve Karpiak has been at Dollar Bay since 1985. He teaches the high school social studies classes.  He received his BA major in History, and minor in Education at Penn State Univ., an MA in US History at the Univ. of Connecticut, and his MS in Forestry at Michigan Tech Univ.  He enjoys watching the students mature and learn.  Outside of school, he does a wide variety of things.  He is involved in the Michigan Tech. Univ. Concert Choir, enjoys hiking, traveling, camping, church activities, and being with his friends and family.

Mrs. Lynn Lanala received a double major in English and Biology at a variety of universities, including Michigan State, Ferris State, and Michigan Tech.  She's been at Dollar Bay since 1985, and teaches English 10 and 11, Biology, and A.P. Biology.  When asked what she likes most about teaching, she said, "I enjoy never doing the same thing from day to day or even from hour to hour."  She also enjoys learning something new every day from her students.  Outside of school she likes to surf the internet, travel, read, and play computer scrabble.

Mrs. Paula McKaig has been at Dollar Bay since 1992.  She teaches all the band and choir classes at Dollar Bay.  She received her major in Secondary Music K-12 with Choral Specifications, and a piano major in Lake Superior State Univ. and Northern Michigan Univ.  She enjoys watching students learn and understand things.  Outside of school she enjoys gardening.

Mr. William O'Connor has been teaching since 1984.  He has been at Dollar Bay since 1996.  He received a Bachelor in Computer Science, and a minor in Math & Science at MTU, and a Masters in Religious Education at Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary.  He teaches Keyboarding, computer applications I and II, Programming I and II, and Elementary Computers. He is also the computer network administrator. One of the things he enjoys most is the hard working and respectful students. Outside of school, he enjoys playing basketball, being with his family, and Ministry.

Mrs. Mary Rautio went to Northern Michigan Univ. for four years, where she received her major in English and a minor in Psychology.  She has been at Dollar Bay since 1995 and currently teaches English 7-9, 12, and Psychology.  One of the more enjoyable parts of teaching is laughing and learning with students.  Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, walking, and going to the beach in our lovely U.P. summers.

Mrs. Kim Rogan has been at Dollar Bay since 1994. She teaches some of our Math, Chemistry, and Physics classes.  She received her degree in Math and Chemistry at Ferris State Univ., and also Michigan Tech Univ.  She enjoys the variety of students she teaches, and being able to help them become something better by learning, and also learning with them.  Outside of school she enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim, and her children Justin and Libby.  She also enjoys walking, reading, and sewing.

Mrs. Carol Salo teaches Art 1 and Art 2, K-8 gym and she also teaches Title 1. She graduated from Jeffers high school in Painsdale. She has a Bachelors in Art Education w/ a Biology minor at Northern Michigan Univ. She then attended Soumi College and got an associates in Arts. After going to Soumi she then went to Michigan Tech University and studied general sociological studies: archaeology and anthropology. She got a Masters in Arts and Education at Northern Michigan Univ. In the past years she has taught at Adams Township Schools, Soumi College, Copper Country Schools, and she has taught private art classes at the Copper Palette. She has 2 dogs, 2 cats, 7 birds and 10 fish. She lives out in the country and wakes up to roosters crowing every morning. She enjoys art, spending time with her grandchildren and art. 

Mr. Greg Staricha went to Calumet High School and he graduated in 1993. After he graduated from high school, he then went on to Northern Michigan University and graduated in 2001 with a bachelor in Science, secondary in Education, major in Industrial Education, and a minor in Earth Science. He is a Woodshop, Metal shop, Drafting, CAD, and Earth Science teacher. His interests include woodworking, family and hockey. 

Mrs. Amy Hyrkas came to our school also this year as a guidance counselor and a tutorer, when she is needed. She is here on Tuesday's and Thursday's. She graduated from Chassell High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in secondary English education from Arizona State University. In 1993 she came back to this area and worked with students with special needs in L'anse for two years. In 1995, she began working at Baraga High School as an English teacher, two years later she landed a job at Chassell High School working as a public speaker, art and English teacher. She has worked many places before Dollar Bay, but now she is here and we are grateful for that. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her daughter and son and with her husband. Mrs. Hyrkas is always full of smiles. 

Mrs. Jamie Mills just came to our school in 2002, she is our new Americorp worker and she helps out in many ways, including tutoring students throughout the day during their study halls. She also does the latch-key program. Mrs. Mills went to high school at Portage Central in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she graduated in 1998. After she graduated she went on to Michigan Tech University and earned a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and obtained a Michigan Teaching Certificate. She has had many other tutoring positions in her home town and the local area. Her interests include hiking, spending time with her husband, backpacking, sports (softball, running, ultimate frisbee) and traveling.
